PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Sept. 22, 2013) – In its BIG EAST opener, the Rutgers field hockey team dropped a 2-0 contest to No. 3 UConn at the Bauer Track and Field Complex, Sunday. Four Scarlet Knights posted shots, including three with shots on goal.
RU moved to 3-4 on the season, while the Huskies improved to 7-0. Senior Rutgers GK Sarah Stuby (Roxbury, N.J.) notched 10 saves, one shy of tying her career-best.
Senior Lisa Patrone (Washington Township, N.J.) and freshman Ashpal Kaur Bhogal (Leeds, England) each recorded a team high two shots, including one on goal apiece. Freshman Sofia Walia (Surrey, British Columbia) and junior Jenn Staab (Marmora, N.J.) also tallied shots, with Walia putting one on goal.
The Huskies scored the lone goal of the first half 14:07 into the game as Anne Jeute broke free and put one into the corner of the cage during a Rutgers green card.
In the second half, UConn’s Chloe Hunnable scored on a penalty corner during an RU yellow card with 21:48 remaining in the contest to seal the 2-0 victory.
The Scarlet Knights next play at Temple on Friday, Sept. 27 at 3 p.m.
