PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Sept. 15, 2013) – The Rutgers field hockey team fell to No. 13 UAlbany, 4-0, in Albany, N.Y., Sunday. Seven Scarlet Knights posted a shot on goal in the contest.
RU moved to 3-3 on the season, while the Great Danes improved to 5-0. The Scarlet Knights held a 6-4 penalty corner advantage and totaled 10 shots. UAlbany notched 14 shots, including eight on goal.
Freshman Sofia Walia (Surrey, British Columbia) recorded a team-high three shots, including one on goal. Junior Sophie Wright (Devizes, United Kingdom) tallied two shots (one on goal) of her own. Freshman Shevaun Hayes (Melbourne, Australia) accumulated four saves in 70:00 minutes in net.
The Great Danes scored twice in the opening half. Echo Bretz notched a goal 8:42 into the game before Kelly Bonner put one in the cage at 20:57.
UAlbany posted two more in the second half, coming from Corrine McConville and Paula Heuser, respectively.
The Scarlet Knights continue play at home, taking on UConn on Sept. 22 at noon.
