PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Sept. 6, 2013) – Junior Sophie Wright (Devizes, United Kingdom) posted two goals as the Rutgers field hockey team defeated La Salle, 4-0, in its home opener at the Bauer Track & Field Complex Friday. The Scarlet Knights had seven total players post points in the contest.

Rutgers (2-1) totaled 31 shots including 18 on goal, while GK Sarah Stuby (Roxbury, N.J.) played all 70 minutes in the cage and improved to 2-0 on the season. The RU defense held the Explorers (0-3) to just five shots and only one on goal.

The Scarlet Knights got on the board first 15:13 into the first half as senior Laura Rose (Washington Township, N.J.) notched her second goal of the season off of a penalty corner with assists from classmate Kaitlyn PLouse (Hummelstown, Pa.) and freshman Ashpal Kaur Bhogal (Leeds, England).

Wright tallied her first score of the game with 7:30 remaining in the first half, redirecting a shot from freshman Sofia Walia (Surrey, British Columbia).

With just 53 seconds remaining in the opening stanza, Wright fired a shot into the cage off a pass from senior Lisa Patrone (Washington, N.J.) for her fourth goal in three games this season.

Freshman Rachel Yaney (Bridgewater, N.J.) posted the first goal of her young career on a breakaway just 2:49 into the second half. She took a pass from Patrone, her second assist of the game, and put it past La Salle GK Lisa Shaffer.

The Scarlet Knights are back in action on Sunday at 1 p.m., taking on No. 10 Duke at the Bauer Track & Field Complex.
