PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Aug. 31, 2013) – The Rutgers field hockey team opened the season with a close 2-1 loss to No. 19 Boston College in Burlington, Vt., Saturday. Junior Sophie Wright (Devizes, United Kingdom) posted the goal for the Scarlet Knights.
The Golden Eagles got on the board first in the opening half as AshLeigh Sebia and Emma Plasteras each scored for Boston College.
Rutgers answered late in the second half, as freshman Ashpal Kaur Bhogal (Leeds, England) found Wright mid-circle, who put it in the cage to cut Boston College’s lead to 2-1 with 1:47 remaining. The Scarlet Knights pulled their goalkeeper for an extra attacker, but couldn’t tie the game.
Bhogal also recorded a defensive save, while freshman GK Shevaun Hayes (Melbourne, Australia) made six stops in the contest. Classmate Sofia Walia (Surrey, British Columbia) totaled five shots in the game.
The Scarlet Knights are back in action tomorrow, Sept. 1, at Vermont in Burlington, Vt., at 2 p.m.
