  • PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Aug. 22, 2013) – The Rutgers field hockey team begins the 2013 season with an exhibition game against Fairfield at the Bauer Track and Field Complex on Saturday, Aug. 24 at 1 p.m.

The Scarlet Knights have played the Stags three times in school history, holding a 1-2 all-time record. Fairfield won the most recent matchup in 2003, but the Scarlet Knights took a 2-1 victory from the Stags on Sept. 10, 2002.

After going 9-10 last season, Rutgers returns four of its top five scorers and seven starters. The squad’s top goal-scorer from 2012, Lisa Patrone (Sewall, N.J.), begins her senior campaign after tallying 19 points (8g, 3a). Last season, sophomore Alyssa Bull (Oakville, Ontario) posted five goals and seven assists, senior Danielle Freshnock (Middletown, N.J.) recorded five goals and six assists and junior Sophie Wright (Devizes, United Kingdom) notched six goals and one assist. All three return to provide offensive firepower.

Some of the conference’s best players return for the Scarlet Knights in 2013. Bull comes back after receiving BIG EAST Rookie of the Year honors in 2012. Patrone and junior Jenn Staab (Marmora, N.J.) each received All-BIG EAST Second Team recognition a season ago.

Rutgers welcomes back plenty of experience at goalkeeper in senior Sarah Stuby (Roxbury, N.J.), who made 100 saves a season ago, while posting a 2.21 GAA and a .704 save percentage.

Following another scrimmage against Princeton (Aug. 27), the Scarlet Knights open the regular season vs. Boston College on Aug. 31 at 1 p.m. in Burlington, Vt. The first home contest is set for Sept. 6 at 3 p.m., when RU takes on La Salle.
