PISCATAWAY, N.J. (June 6, 2013) – Rutgers’ Bauer Field Hockey Complex is hosting the U.S. National Women’s Field Hockey team until June 14, as the national team prepares for the World League Semifinals.
“Rutgers is honored to host the USA Women’s National Team as they prepare for the World League Semi-Finals to be held later this month. I had the opportunity to meet Craig Parnham, the new USA head coach, last week at the Women’s National Championships in Virginia. He is both motivating and inspiring, and he has a clear vision of how the program will be successful,” said Rutgers head field hockey coach Meredith Long. “In giving the women's national team access to our facilities, we're proud that Rutgers can help them along the road to achieving that success."
During their training on the Rutgers campus, newly named U.S. National Team head coach Craig Parnham will narrow down the 30-player field and name the 18-player roster heading to England to compete in the World Cup qualifying event.
The World League Semifinals will be held June 22-30 in Chiswick, Great Britain. The U.S. will open up competition with defending World Cup champion and silver medalists Argentina, China and Italy in pool play.
The U.S. National Team comes “to the banks” for training as they await their new training facility in Lancaster, Pennsylvania to be completed. In the meantime, Rutgers’ Bauer Field Hockey complex will be home to the team that includes several New Jersey standouts and natives, who began their careers in the USA Futures Program at Rutgers. Among those hometown athletes competing for one of the coveted 18 spots on the roster are Teresa Benvenuti (Morristown, N.J.), Michelle Cesan (New Vernon, N.J.), Rachel Dawson (Berlin, N.J.), Natalie Hunter (Seaville, N.J.), a former Ocean City High School teammate of rising Scarlet Knight junior standout Jennifer Stabb (Marmora, N.J.), Lauren Pfeiffer (Mt. Laurel, N.J.), Michelle Vittese (Cherry Hill, N.J.), and Emily Wold (Freehold, N.J.).
