  • PISCATAWAY, N.J. (October 16, 2012) –  Rutgers field hockey heads to Providence, R.I. for a pair of games as part of a four-game set on the road. The Scarlet Knights (8-7, 2-3 BIG EAST) will start off the weekend with their final conference matchup of the regular season, playing Providence (7-6, 2-2 BIG EAST) on Friday, Oct. 19 at 7 p.m.  RU will face Brown (3-8) at noon on Sunday, Oct. 21.

Rutgers and Providence hold a 6-12 all-time record, and the teams last met on the turf on Oct. 14, 2011 when Rutgers downed Providence, 3-1. The three goals from last season’s win came from current Scarlet Knights, Carlie Rouh (Berlin, N.J.), Cornelia Duffin (Moorestown, N.J.), and Lisa Patrone.

Earlier in the week, Rutgers had two players earn BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll accolades. Danielle Freshnock (Middletown, N.J.) slotted two goals in the conference win over Louisville. The junior forward is second on the team in points (14) and is tied for second in both goals (5) and assists (4). Freshnock has career and season highs in each of these categories.

RU’s goalkeeper Sarah Stuby (Roxbury, N.J.) was nominated for her defensive efforts, and recorded five saves in the win over Louisville.  She amassed ten stops, one short of her career-high, in the 2-0 loss to a tough No.14 Lafayette squad. Stuby has totaled 77 saves on the season, and with four games remaining, she is looking to top her 81 stops from last season.

Providence junior Caitlin Malone was most recently named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week after a six-point effort last weekend in a pair of wins over Vermont and Villanova.  Malone grabbed two goals in the Vermont game and the gamewinner in the win over the Wildcats.

RU’s Sunday opponent holds a 1-2 series record over the Scarlet Knights.  Rutgers last faced the Bears September 30, 2007 which resulted in a 2-0 victory for RU.
