PISCATAWAY, N.J. (August 31, 2012) –  Carlie Rouh (Berlin, N.J.) came up big for the Scarlet Knights in the annual “Stick It to Cancer” matchup against Monmouth in West Long Branch, N.J., tallying a goal and an assist to send Rutgers to a 2-1 record for the season.  The nonconference victory, a 4-1 win, puts RU 2-3 all-time against the in-state foe.

The Scarlet Knights move to 2-1 on the season, while the Hawks sit at 0-3 after losses to No.7 Syracuse and Hofstra last weekend.

Following a penalty corner, Rouh knocked one past the Hawks defense at the 19:57 minute mark from a give-and-go play in the circle. Alyssa Bull (Oakville, Ontario) was credited with the assist.  The Rouh goal ended up being the lone goal of the half.

The second half brought much more action as Lisa Patrone (Sewall, N.J.) found her way to the goal to push the Rutgers lead to two. Not long after, Rouh took advantage of a corner opportunity and saw Sophie Wright (Devizes, United Kingdom) on the left side who sent a ball to the back of the cage, marking her first goal of the season.

Monmouth got on the board midway through the second half as Kimmy Baligian snuck one past Rutgers line of defense.  To seal the game and take home the victory, Cornelia Duffin (Moorestown, N.J.) one-touched a pass from Chelsea Rota and sent it past the Hawks defense putting Rutgers up 4-1.

Rutgers keeper Sarah Stuby (Roxbury, N.J.) had four saves on the day, and along with the experience in the back, kept the Scarlet Knights on top.

Rutgers tallied 25 shots on the day to Monmouth’s 10, and had 15 penalty corners to MU’s 5.

The Scarlet Knights return to action at home for a 1 p.m. game on Sunday, Sept. 2 agasint Temple.  Next, RU heads out with a four-game stretch on the road.  Rutgers will face Maine on Sept. 7, at 3 p.m. and Bryant at noon the next day.  Both games will be played in Orono, Maine.
