  • PISCATAWAY, N.J. (August 23, 2012) – To kick off the 2012 season Rutgers field hockey welcomes two nationally ranked (NFHCA) opponents, the No. 19 Albany Great Danes and the No.14 Boston University Terriers, for a pair of weekend games.

Rutgers will face the Great Danes at Bauer Track and Field Complex for a 1p.m. match on Friday, August 24 followed by a match against Boston University on Sunday, August 26 at 1p.m.

The Scarlet Knights are 9-12 all-time against America East Conference teams.

For the 2012 season, the Scarlet Knights return 16 players and add five freshmen to the roster.  The squad is now under direction of first-year head coach, Meredith Long, who served as an assistant coach at Rutgers for two seasons.

“I am excited for my first season as head coach.  I am really looking forward to working with this team and coaching staff.  They are a hardworking and talented group of players committed to a new brand of Rutgers Field Hockey,” said Long.

Rutgers finished their 2011 campaign with a 5-13 (2-4 BIG EAST) record, putting the Scarlet Knights in fourth place in the division.  RU enters the 2012 season sitting fourth in the BIG EAST preseason poll, with junior midfielder Lisa Patrone being selected to the All-BIG EAST preseason team.
