Rich Knupp joined the staff in December of 2012 as the Director of Athletics Development, Major Gifts. Rich’s primary responsibilities focus on enhancing donor relationships and producing revenue from major gift prospects. He strategically plans and implements measures designed to grow annual revenue to benefit the Department of Athletics.
Rich joined Rutgers following a 3.5 year tenure at Lehigh University, and most recently as the Director of the Athletics Partnership (Athletics Alumni Relations & Development) at Lehigh University. As Director, he planned, executed, and managed the Athletics annual operating fundraising campaign, an initiative that saw a strong growth in support (33%) during his first year as Director. Specifically, Rich was responsible for leading the fundraising efforts for the football, men’s lacrosse, and rowing programs which grew over 300%, 100%, and 100%, respectively, during his time at Lehigh. Additionally, during Rich’s tenure at Lehigh Athletics, total donor count increased 64%, while donors who gave $1,000+ per year grew 46%. Rich led a team of four part-time “Partnership Representatives” who managed over 300 former letterwinner volunteers and 75 alumni-related events per year.
Prior to Lehigh, Rich was an analyst/junior trader on the Institutional Fixed Income Trading Treasury Bond Desk at Merrill Lynch in New York City, after working as a senior accounting associate for the Planning & Analysis team at Prudential Internal Insurance in Newark, NJ.
Rich received a bachelor’s degree in Economics with a concentration in Finance from Dartmouth College. While at Dartmouth, Rich was a three-year Varsity letterwinner on the football team. He also earned an MBA in Finance from Lehigh University in 2011. Rich and his wife Amanda live in Hoboken, NJ.
