HOLMDEL, NJ – The Rutgers women’s cross country team placed six runners in the top-20 to finish first at the 9th annual Monmouth Invitational today. The meet was originally scheduled for Friday, Sept. 19, but officials at Monmouth postponed it in anticipation of Hurricane Isabel.
Junior Belmax DeJesus (Fort Lee, NJ) finished third overall (18:03.50), and senior Jamie Kerstetter (Monroe, NJ) finished 13th (19:39.00) to the lead the Scarlet Knights.
“I was very proud of our team effort today, in particular our newcomers,” said head coach Roberta Anthes, who is in her 20th year at Rutgers. “Belmax DeJesus is really coming into her own and competing on a top level.”
The Scarlet Knights have two weeks off before competing at the Metropolitan Championships on Friday, Oct. 3, at the New York Armory in the Bronx.
