Culley finished second with a time of 20:54 on the 6,000 meter course, finishing only three seconds behind All-American Megan Metcalfe from West Virginia University, the first place scorer.
“Julie’s race bodes well for her in meets in the future,” said head coach Roberta Anthes. “She was in contact with excellent runners and it came down to a sprint at the end of the race.”
Belmax DeJesus (Stanhope, NJ) was the second finisher for RU in 44th place with a time of 22:37. Jane Albright (Basking Ridge, NJ) was third for the team in 60th place with a time of 23:07 and Julie Delimon (Stanhope, NJ) scored a personal best of 23:11 for 65th place. Nicole Lombardy (Lincroft, NJ) ran in 23:13 for 69th place to round out the Scarlet Knight scorers.
Penn State won the meet, with West Virginia University and Princeton taking second and third, respectively. Columbia finished in fourth, Wayne State took fifth and UPenn finished in sixth place.
“I’m really pleased with the overall team results,” said head coach Roberta Anthes. “I saw significant improvement in this meet. We’re no longer in the 24-minute range, we’re getting closer to our target time.”
“I’m proud of us as a team,” said Anthes. “We’re in contention with good teams and good runners.”
On the men's side, senior Will Webekind (Newfield, NJ) finished first for RU in 98th place with a time of 26:25.69. Brian Stanziano (Barnegat, NJ) finished with a time of 26:30.24 in 100th place. Joe Pellegrino (Morganville, NJ) had a time of 26:36.38 in 106th place and Ambar Patel (Lake Hiawatha, NJ) finished 129th with a time of 27:01.90. Jeremy Klapper (East Windsor, NJ) rounded out the Scarlet Knights scorers with a time of 27:34.44 for 151st place.
Both teams will next be in action at the Metropolitan Championships on Fri.,
Oct. 4 at Van Cortlandt Park in New York City.
