PISCATAWAY, N.J. (February 19, 2014) – The Rutgers men’s cross country team was honored by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) by earning Division I All-Academic Cross Country status.
To qualify as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country Team, the team must have had a cumulative team GPA of 3.00 or better and have started at least five runners at their respective NCAA regional championship.
The Scarlet Knights posted a 3.32 cumulative GPA, the highest GPA of the five American Athletic Conference teams represented. Among Big Ten schools, which Rutgers will join next fall, the Scarlet Knights’ grade point average would have led the way.

Senior Chris Banafato (Bridgewater, N.J.) - major: accounting
Senior Steve Burkholder (Marlton, N.J.) – major: psychology
Senior Curtis Richburg (West Orange, N.J.) – major: labor studies/economics
Junior Chris Defabio (Millington, N.J.) – major: exercise science
Junior Anthony Horten (Moorestown, N.J.) – major: exercise science
Junior Brian Wells (Piscataway, N.J.) – major: applied sciences in engineering
Sophomore Jaimin Vekaria (Clinton, N.J.), - major: pre-business
Freshman Sam Habib (Old Bridge, N.J.) – major: engineering
Freshman Nick Price (Old Bridge, N.J.) – major: undeclared
The Rutgers men’s cross country team placed 17th overall at the NCAA Division Mid-Atlantic Regional and placed seventh at the IC4A. Banafato, who placed sixth at IC4A’s, along with DeFabio were both All-East University Division honorees.
