PISCATAWAY, N.J. (September 7, 2013) – Sophomore Paige Senatore (Delsea, N.J.) and junior Allison Payenski (Whitehouse Station, N.J.) both finished in the top 10 and the Rutgers women’s cross country team had four top 20 times overall as the Scarlet Knights opened the 2013 season at the 33rd running of the Fordham Fiasco XC Meet at Van Cortlandt Park on Saturday.
Rutgers, who currently ranks 15th in the Mid-Atlantic Region in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Association (USTFCCA) Preseason Regional Poll, finished fourth out of the eight Division I teams racing on the 5K course. Host Fordham won the meet with 55.2 points and was followed by Monmouth in second with 68 points Rider placed third (77), followed by Rutgers (87), Fairfield (96), Hartford (115), Fairleigh Dickinson (178), and Saint Peter's (247).
Senatore captured the Scarlet Knight’s top time taking fourth in 18:57.88. Payenski gave RU’s its second top ten finish by placing seventh in 19:18.81.
In the top 20, freshman Kaitlyn Bedard (Ringoes, N.J.) posted a time of 19:53.40 for 18th in her Scarlet Knight debut, while senior Rashmi Singh (Flemington, N.J.) took 20th in 20:00.70.
Behind Singh for the Scarlet Knights were freshman Nisa Cicitta (Glen Gardner, N.J.) in 40th (20:57.18) and junior Felicia O’Donnell (Franklinville, N.J.) in 49th (21:23.94).
The Rutgers women’s cross country team returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 21 at the Monmouth Invitational in Holmdel, N.J.
