PISCATAWAY, N.J. (August 29, 2013) – The Rutgers women’s cross country team was ranked 15th in the Mid-Atlantic Region entering the 2013 season, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced.
“We’re thrilled to begin the season with a Top 15 preseason ranking,” said Rutgers head women’s cross country coach James Robinson. “ We understand that the ranking is based on our finish from last year’s regional competition . The team will train hard and look to gradually improve our final regional ranking throughout the cross country season.”
The Scarlet Knights welcome back a trio of seniors in Ashley Deckert (Newfield, N.J.), Brianna Deming (Webster, N.Y.) and Rashmi Singh (Flemington, N.J.). Juniors include Christina Dibenardo (Woodbury , N.Y.), Felicia O’Donnell (Franklinville, N.J.) and Allison Payenski (Whitehouse Station, N.J.). Paige Senatore (Delsea, N.J.) is lone RU sophomore and joins four newcomers in freshmen Kaitlyn Bedard (Ringoes, N.J.), Nisa Cicitta (Glen Gardner, N.J.), Ellen Miller (Morris Plains, N.J.) and Nicole Nicholas (Jersey City, N.J.).
The 2013 season gets under way on Sept. 7 at the Fordham Fiasco at Van Cortland Park. The Scarlet Knights will also compete at the Monmouth Invitational on Sept.21 at Holmdel Park and the Paul Short Invitational in Bethlehem, Pa. on Oct. 5. RU travels to the Metropolitan Championships at Van Cortland Park on Oct. 11 while the American Athletic Conference Championships will be held on Nov. 2 hosted by UConn at Hammonasset Beach State Park.
