PISCATAWAY N.J. — (November 9, 2012) – The Rutgers women’s cross country team earned 16th place in the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional meet on Friday, Nov. 9, held at Penn State University. The Scarlet Knights earned 460 points in the six-kilometer meet, finishing just behind Lehigh, which recorded 457 points. The meet was the final competition of the 2012 season for the Scarlet Knights.
"I thought the ladies performed well today. As a coaching staff, we've preached to them to continue to improve your times each opportunity that you get to compete,” said head coach James Robinson. “All seven runners improved their time significantly from two months ago, when we competed on the same course. We will utilize the results and performances from this competition to propel us into next cross country season."
Host school Penn State won the meet with 61 points. Georgetown recorded 63 points to finish in second place, while Villanova earned third place with a 97-point score.
Sophomore Allison Payenski (Whitehouse Station N.J.) led RU with a 57th-place finish, completing the course in 22:10. Juniors Rashmi Singh (Flemington, N.J.) and Briana Demming (Webster, N.Y.) rounded out the top-three for the Scarlet Knights, finishing 89th and 97th, respectively. Singh ran a time of 22:49, while Deming clocked in at 22:55.
