PRINCETON, N.J. - (October 10, 2012) – The Rutgers men’s and women’s cross country teams travel down Route 1 on Saturday to compete in the Princeton Invitational, hosted by Princeton University. The Scarlet Knights are one of 24 teams running in the event, which marks the final tune-up before the BIG EAST Championships on Fri. Oct. 26.
Both squads competed last Friday in the Metropolitan Championships, with the women finishing second overall and the men earning a sixth-place finish. Sophomore Ashley Deckert (Newfield, N.J.) and sophomore Briana Deming (Webster, N.Y.) paced for RU on the women’s side, finishing ninth (19:07.3) and 11th (19:12.85), respectively.
Leading the men’s squad was sophomore Chris Banafato (Bridgewater, N.J.), who finished 12th overall with a time of 26:51.00. Freshman Chris Defabio (Millington, N.J.) was not far off, securing 15th place in a time of 26:57.03
