PISCATAWAY, N.J. (September 10, 2012) – The Rutgers women’s cross country team opened the 2012 season at the Spike Shoe Invitational on the campus of Penn State on Saturday, Sept. 8. The Scarlet Knights amassed a team score of 206 points to place seventh out of 10 schools.
Pacing the Scarlet Knights was junior Ashley Deckert (Neewfield, N.J.) in 25th place with a time of 22:28, followed by senior Jennifer Spitzer (Fairport, N.Y.), who placed 40th in 23:11. Sophomore Allison Payenski (Whitehouse Station, N.J.) finished 43rd in 23:20, while junior Brianna Deming (Webster, N.Y.) took 46th in 23:23 and freshman Paige Senatore (Newfield, N.J.) rounded out the scoring with a 52nd-place showing with a time of 23:30.
Junior Rashmi Singh (Flemington, N.J.) and senior Lindsay Bertulis (Cedarville, N.J.) completed the Rutgers field of runners with the pair finishing 57th and 61st, respectively. Singh ran a time of 23:47, followed by Bertulis in 24:22.
The Scarlet Knights will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 15 for the Monmouth Invitational in Holmdel, N.J.
