PISCATAWAY, N.J. (October 28, 2011) – The Rutgers men’s and women’s cross country teams will travel to Louisville, Ky. for the 2011 BIG EAST Championships on Saturday, Oct. 29. The meet will be held at E.P. “Tom” Sawyer State Park, hosted by the University of Louisville. The men kick things off at 11:00 a.m. ET with an 8k race, and the women’s 6k race will follow at 11:50 a.m. ET.
The Scarlet Knights have enjoyed a successful season thus far, highlighted by a third-place finish at the Leeber Invitational (Sept. 24) for the men, while the women’s squad placed second at the Metropolitan Championships (Oct. 8) and won the Connecticut College Invitational (Oct. 15).
On the men’s side, sophomore Chris Banafato (Bridgewater, N.J.) has led RU at both the Fordham and Leeber Invitational. He placed third overall at the Leeber Invitational with a timie of 26:44. Sophomore Briana Deming (Webster, N.Y.) has led the Scarlet Knights, winning the individual title at the Metropolitan Championships, while also placing second overall at the Connecticut College Invitational.
The Rutgers men and women finished 11th at last year’s BIG EAST Championship.
