LETS GO RU! - a common cheer heard throughout the stadiums of Rutgers University. The crowd is enticed to cheer along through the enthusiasm of the Rutgers Dance Team.
To become the energetic, precise team fans watch during events, we partake in rigorous training during the summer and will attend a dance team camp in August. During the long hours of learning and choreographing routines, we build our technique, as well as our relationships with each other. As a team, we have the opportunity to experience sporting events first hand, through cheering at football, as well as men and women’s basketball games. These performances require members to know numerous band dances and cheers, as well as multiple routines to be performed as a half time show for basketball games. These routines, band dances, and cheers are crowd pleasers and add to the enjoyment the crowd experiences when attending sporting events. Although we do not travel with the teams to away games, we have the honor to represent Rutgers to our own appreciative fans.
In contrast to other Rutgers teams, we do not receive scholarship money, however, we are granted book stipends, as well as a varsity letter because of our hard work. The RAC on Livingston campus is our home. This stadium is where we practice three days a week, 3 hours at a time, in preparation for sport events, such as Midknight Madness and Meet the Team Knight, numerous charitable events, and fundraisers.
The RAC becomes a second home to members especially during winter break as we cheer on the basketball teams but also work on our own National competition routines. We will attend UDA Collegiate Dance Team Nationals in January.. Rutgers Dance Team places amongst the best in the nation each year as a result of the members’ incredible technique and dedication. We know it is a great honor to be able to represent Rutgers through our highly acclaimed and successful team. As a member of the Rutgers Dance Team, one has the opportunity to find one’s niche in such a large institution and represent the university through a strong tradition of success, talent, and respect.
