PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Pairings for the NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Championship were announced Monday evening and Auburn, Virginia Commonwealth and Lehigh will be joining Rutgers at the Piscataway site for First/Second Round games Saturday, March 21 and Monday, March 23.
Saturday’s first round session will feature No. 2 seed Auburn vs. No. 15 seed Lehigh at noon, followed 30 minutes later by No. 7 seed Rutgers vs. No. 10 seed Virginia Commonwealth. The two advancing teams will square off in the second round Monday at 7:00 p.m.
Prior to Saturday’s session, each team will hold an open practice inside the Louis Brown Athletic Center. Admission is free and fans are encouraged to catch their team in action on the court at the site of competition as part of the tournament’s festivities. Tickets for the 2009 NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Championship First/Second Round Games at the Louis Brown Athletic Center are on sale. The Rutgers Department of Intercollegiate Athletics has three ticket packages available for the event. An Adult All-Session package allows access to all three games of the tournament for $40.00, while a Student All-Session package is available to anyone 18 years of age or younger and college students for $15.00. A “Family Four Pack” that includes four tickets to the first round doubleheader Session I on March 21 and four hot dogs and four sodas is available for $60.00. Parking for each session will be $8.00.

Rutgers is one of 16 host sites for the first and second round games that leads to four regional sites (Oakland, Raleigh, Oklahoma City and Trenton) for the Sweet 16, and culminates with the 2009 Final Four at the Scottrade Center in Saint Louis, Mo. The other 15 first and second round host schools include New Mexico, LSU, Western Kentucky, Tennessee-Chattanooga, Maryland, Ohio State, Georgia, Michigan State, Iowa, Texas Tech, Notre Dame, USC, San Diego State, Washington and Connecticut.
The 8,000-seat arena, also known as the Rutgers Athletic Center (RAC) has played host to several NCAA Championship games, most recently serving as the host site for the 2001 first and second round games as the Scarlet Knights were one of the top seeds in the tournament that season. The RAC also hosted NCAA Championship games in 1999 and 2000.
The 2009 NCAA Championship marks the first time Rutgers will host an NCAA Championship game since pre-determined sites were adopted beginning with the 2003 Championship.
The Louis Brown Athletic Center, the home of the Scarlet Knights since the 1977-78 season, has also hosted the 2002 and 2003 BIG EAST Women's Basketball Championship.
