PISCATAWAY, NJ – Rutgers women’s basketball student-athlete Cappie Pondexter (Chicago, IL) has been named the BIG EAST Conference Co-Rookie of the Week for the second consecutive week, again sharing the honor with Connecticut’s Barbara Turner.

Pondexter, a 5-9 guard, averaged 19.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game in two Rutgers victories last week. In a 65-50 RU win against West Virginia Feb. 12, Pondexter scored a game-high 18 points, adding a team-best three assists while tying for the team lead with eight rebounds and two steals. In Rutgers’ 67-53 victory against Pittsburgh Feb. 16, Pondexter scored a game-high 21 points on 8-for-16 (.500) shooting, adding a team-best seven assists and two steals.

This marked the fourth time Pondexter has earned rookie-of-the-week honors this season, also garnering the award on Dec. 16, Jan. 19 and Feb. 10.

The No. 23/25 Scarlet Knights (16-5, 9-2 BIG EAST) will begin a two-game road trip Wednesday, Feb. 19, at St. John’s. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
