Pondexter, a 5-9 guard, had consecutive 20-point games in two Rutgers victories. Against Miami Feb. 4, she scored 19 of her game-high 21 points in the second half to lead RU to a 65-56 comeback victory, adding seven assists and three steals. At Seton Hall Feb. 9, Pondexter scored 18 of her game-high 20 points in the final 20 minutes, adding a season-best 11 rebounds for her first career double-double in RU’s 60-45 win.
She earned her second recognition Jan. 19 after scoring game-winning baskets in each of Rutgers’ upsets of nationally-ranked teams. Against No. 19/25 Villanova Jan. 15, she scored an off-balance shot in the paint with 26 seconds to play to lift RU to a 58-57 victory. Against the Wildcats, Pondexter collected her fourth-consecutive 20-point game with a team-best 23 points, connecting on 10 of 14 (.714) field goals. At No. 21/20 Notre Dame Jan. 18, she made a jumper with 26 seconds on the clock to lead the Scarlet Knights to a 64-61 win. Pondexter made six of 10 (.600) shots to score 14 points, adding four rebounds and four assists despite Notre Dame's box-and-one defense. She also was named the Rookie of the Week Dec. 16 after leading RU with 16 points and four assists in the Scarlet Knights’ 52-42 victory at Temple Dec. 10. Pondexter also tied for the team lead with nine rebounds, shooting 50.0 (6-12) percent from the field and 80.0 (4-5) percent from the free-throw line.
Rutgers (14-5, 7-2 BIG EAST) will begin a two-game homestand Wednesday, Feb. 12, against West Virginia. Tipoff is at 7:30 p.m.
