MISSION STATEMENT
Providence cut RU’s lead to six (23-17) with less than eight minutes to play in the first half, but the Scarlet Knights outscored the Lady Friars 21-11 during the remaining 7:57, entering the locker room with a 43-28 lead. Providence never got closer than that 15-point halftime deficit in the second half, as RU’s final margin of victory was its largest advantage of the game.
Senior Mauri Horton (Minneapolis, MN) and sophomore Cappie Pondexter (Chicago, IL) tied for the game-high scoring honors with 14 points apiece. Horton made five of six (.833) field goals, including a 2-of-3 (.667) effort from three-point range, while Pondexter contributed team highs of seven assists and three steals. Junior Shalicia Hurns (Indianapolis, IN) added 10 points and a game-high seven rebounds for the Knights.
The 31 turnovers forced by the Rutgers defense were a season high, as was the
60.5 (26-43) percent shooting effort by the RU offense.
