MISSION STATEMENT
McCullouch led Rutgers in the first half, grabbing nine rebounds and adding five points. Sophomore point guard Cappie Pondexter (Chicago, IL) added seven points on 3-of-4 (.750) shooting and two steals in the opening half as Rutgers led 34-20 at intermission. Rutgers’ full-court press defense held the Gazelles to 8-of-31 (.258) field-goal shooting in the first half, while the Scarlet Knights shot 15-of-30 (.500).
The Scarlet Knights continued the defensive pressure in the second half, forcing the Gazelles to commit 19 turnovers. RU had nine steals in the half and 17 for the game, including five apiece by junior guard Mauri Horton (Minneapolis, MN) and McCullouch.
Rutgers displayed a balanced scoring attack, with five players scoring double figures. Freshman Michelle Campbell (Princeton, NJ) led the team with 17 points on 6-of-10 (.600) shooting, while McCullouch and Pondexter added 14. Horton had 13 and sophomore center Amber Petillon (Brick, NJ) contributed 11 points and five rebounds. For the game, Rutgers shot 32-of-62 (.516) from the floor.
Rutgers will begin the regular season on Friday, Nov. 22, at No. 6/No. 6 Stanford at 7 p.m.
