PISCATAWAY, N.J. (June 30, 2014) --  Former Scarlet Knight standout and Rutgers Women’s Basketball Hall of Famer, Vicky Picott, has been named an assistant coach with the Wagner Seahawks women’s basketball program.

One of the most prolific players “On The Banks,” Picott led Rutgers to four-straight NCAA Tournament appearances, an Atlantic-10 Tournament Championship and was a District II Regional All-American during her Scarlet Knight career.  A sleek and mobile forward, the 1992 graduate was the 14th player in history to score 1,000 points and currently ranks fourth in scoring (1,792), fourth in rebounds (1,029) and seventh steals (257) in the RU record books.  Picott was a two-time captain, the 1988 Atlantic 10 Freshman of the Year, a second team all-conference selection as sophomore and first team pick as both a junior and senior. During her time with the Scarlet Knights, Picott won a silver medal at the 1989 Olympic Festival and played for the 1988 U.S. Junior National Team.

Picott joins the Wagner program after 11-years as an assistant at Vanderbilt, where she helped the Commodores to three SEC Tournament Championships, four Sweet 16 appearances and eight top-25 finishes.

Picott began her coaching career under former Scarlet Knight head coach and Women’s Basketball Hall of Famer, Theresa Grentz, as a student assistant in 1991-92 and went on to become the freshman girls basketball coach at her high school alma mater, Hightstown High School. She returned to the college ranks as an assistant at Drexel in 1995 under former Rutgers standout, Kristen Foley, and followed her teammate when she took over the reigns of the Temple program in 1995. In 2000, Picott became an assistant at Xavier, helping the Musketeers to a 43-22 record during her two-year stint along with an appearance in the 2001 NCAA Tournament Mideast Regional Finals.
