Tyler Scaife Earns Third Straight American Rookie of the Week
Rookie Scarlet Knight Earns Conference Weekly Award For Fifth Time in Six Weeks

  • PISCATAWAY, N.J. (February 17, 2014) – For the third straight week and fifth time in the last six weeks, freshman guard Tyler Scaife (Little Rock, Ark.) was named the American Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week.  Scaife averaged 19.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists in Rutgers’ 2-0 week.

    At Houston in a 74-42 win last Tuesday, Scaife had 16 points along with five rebounds, five assists and three blocks in helping head coach C. Vivian Stringer to her 400th victory at Rutgers.  The rookie Scarlet Knight also shot 8-of-14 (57.1 percent) from the floor and added in a pair of steals.

    The Little Rock, Ark. native followed with 22 points in a 90-50 win over UCF in Rutgers’ largest margin of victory.  She shot 11-of-17 from the floor in RU’s first 90 point game since 2010.  Against the Knights, Scaife also added in five boards, five assists, two steals and a block.

    On the season, Scaife is averaging 13.7 points, 3.1 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game.  In conference play, she is pouring in 15.5 points, 3.4 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game.  She has reached double figures in 20 of her 25 appearances, including 11 of the last 12 contests.

    Sophomore forward Kahleah Copper (Philadelphia, Pa.) was also awarded with a nod to the American Honor Roll.

    Copper averaged 19.0 points and 5.0 rebounds in RU's 2-0 week.  She also shot 57.1 percent from the field and 93.3 percent from the line.

    Against Houston in a 74-42 win, Copper helped to give head coach C. Vivian Stringer her 400th win at Rutgers by netting 16 points, which included a perfect 8-of-8 performance from the line.  Also against the Cougars, she hauled in six boards, including five on the offensive glass.

    Copper followed her performance with 22 points in Rutgers’ largest margin of victory this season in a victory over UCF.  Copper went 8-of-12 from the field (72.7 percent) and 6-of-7 (85.7) from the line in helping to give the Scarlet Knights 90 points for the first time since 2010.

    On the season, Copper is averaging 16.1 points and 6.0 rebounds per game.

    The Rutgers women’s basketball team returns to the court on Sunday, Feb. 23 at No. 4/3 Louisville.  The game will air on ESPNU.
