PISCATAWAY, N.J. (February 3, 2014) – Rutgers freshman guard Tyler Scaife (Little Rock, Ark.) was named the American Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week for a third time it was announced Monday by the conference office. Scaife averaged 19.0 points, shot 59.3 percent from the field and dished out 4.5 assists in Rutgers’ 1-1 week.
Against national runner-up and No. 5 Louisville last Tuesday night, the Little Rock, Ark. native dropped in a career-high 25 points, going 10-of-16 from the floor (62.5 percent) and 5-of-5 from the free throw line.
Scaife followed with a 13-point performance against Memphis, helping the Scarlet Knights avenge their earlier loss to the Tigers. She also handed out five assists, one short of her career mark.
On the season, Scaife is averaging 13.2 points per game along with 3.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game. In conference play, the rookie Scarlet Knight is averaging 15.1 points per game.
The Rutgers women’s basketball team closes out its current homestand by wrapping up the season series with Cincinnati on Tuesday, Feb. 4. It will be dollar dog night at the RAC, where the Scarlet Knights and Bearcats tip off at 7:30 p.m. The game will air on the American Digital Network with Bob Picozzi and Debbie Antonelli on the call.
