PISCATAWAY, N.J. (January 20, 2014) – Rutgers freshman guard Tyler Scaife (Little Rock, Ark.) was named the American Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week for the second straight week, it was announced by the conference office on Monday.
Scaife had back-to-back 20+ points games last week for the Scarlet Knights averaging 21.5 points along with five rebounds and 4.5 assists per game. She shot at a combined 54.5 percent clip (18-of-133) against Memphis and No. 1 Connecticut
At Memphis last Wednesday, Scaife went 8-of-16 from the floor (50 points) and 5-of-6 from the free throw line for the first 20-point game of career, ending the night with a then career-high 21 points. She also dished the ball out a career-high six times and hauled in a career-high seven boards.
Scaife followed up that performance by resetting her career-high again with 22 points against the top-ranked Huskies on Sunday. The rookie Scarlet Knight led her team going 10-of-17 from the floor (59 percent) along with three rebounds and three assists. She set new career marks in field goals made (10) and field goals attempts (17) against the defending national champions.
On the season, Scaife is averaging 12.6 points per game along with 2.9 assists per game.
The Rutgers women’s basketball team is back on the road for a trip to Orlando for the first ever meeting with UCF on Wednesday, Jan. 22. The game will be available on the American Digital Network with Bob Picozzi and Debbie Antonelli calling all the action.
