PISCATAWAY, N.J. (December 16, 2013) – Sophomore forward Kahleah Copper (Philadelphia, Pa.) was named to the American Athletic Conference Honor Roll for a third time this season after helping the Rutgers women’s basketball team to an undefeated week averaging 16.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game.
In an 83-53 win over Wagner on Thursday night, Copper shot 6-of-9 (67 percent) from the field and 3-of-5 from the line for 15 points as one of five Scarlet Knights in double figures. She also dished out the ball a career-high six times and hauled in five rebounds.
Copper followed with a game-high 17 points in Sunday’s 71-51 win over Sacred Heart. She went 7-of-9 (78 percent) from the floor and added in six boards and five assists with no turnovers.
The sophomore Scarlet Knight has scored in double figures in all 10 games to date this season and is averaging 16.1 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. She is one game shy of tying Epiphanny Prince’s mark of 11-straight double-digit scoring efforts to start the 2006-07 season. Copper is currently fifth in the American in scoring and 12th in rebounding.
Rutgers will host nationally ranked and currently undefeated Georgia on Saturday, Dec. 21 to close out the current homestand. Former Scarlet Knight standout and WNBA All-Star Essence Carson will be in attendance as RU closes out the non-conference schedule signing autographs in the main concourse of the RAC starting at 1 p.m. Additionally fans will also have a chance to win great prizes with basketball bingo.
