PISCATAWAY (August 28, 2013) – Alex Alfano (Atlantic Highlands, N.J.), a 5-8 guard from Red Bank Catholic High School , has been added to the Rutgers women’s basketball team it was announced on Wednesday by Scarlet Knight head coach C. Vivian Stringer.
“We are extremely excited about Alex joining the Scarlet Knights,” said Stringer. “She’s a New Jersey girl who can shoot and has great range. Alex has a great attitude, is a great student and is a positive addition to the team.”
Alfano averaged 10.4 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game for head coach Joe Montano at Red Bank Catholic. She helped her teams to four Shore Conference Division championships and was selected to play in the Shore Conference All-Star Game. As a senior, she helped the Caseys to a 29-2 overall record, the Non-Public-A State Championship and semifinal round of the Tournament of Champions.
Among her scholastic accolades, Alfano was named Honorable Mention All-New Jersey by MSG Varsity, a Central All-Division honoree and earned Non-Public A honors. She also garnered MVP of the Hoop Group Boardwalk Classic. She also lettered as a freshman and sophomore as a member of the Red Bank Catholic cross country team.
Alfano joins fellow freshman guard Tyler Scaife (Little Rock, Ark.), the two-time Arkansas Gatorade Player of the Year and ninth overall rated recruit by ESPN Hoopgurlz.
Previously announced signee and Georgia Tech transfer Brittany Jackson has not enrolled at Rutgers and will not be a member of the team this fall.
