PISCATAWAY, NJ – The Rutgers Division of Intercollegiate Athletics and Coca-Cola will co-host an event prior to RU’s Feb. 3 home game against Syracuse, bringing together New Jersey’s female leaders in business and government.
Encouraging corporate support of the Scarlet Knight women’s intercollegiate athletic program, networking and building relationships, and creating internship and professional opportunities for RU student-athletes are all objectives for the event. The program and meal will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the Louis Brown Athletic Center, followed by tipoff of the Rutgers-Syracuse game at 7:30 p.m. The event is part of Rutgers’ on-going effort to increase community, corporate and alumni support of its women’s intercollegiate athletic programs.
“We really hope that this event will help raise the visibility of the Rutgers athletic programs,” said Kate Sweeney, a former Scarlet Knight women’s basketball player (1974-77) and co-captain who has helped coordinate the event. “We hope that these women will become more involved with Rutgers and the community, becoming mentors and contacts for the Rutgers student-athletes as they graduate and seek professional positions.”
In addition, the Feb. 3 women’s basketball game will be a celebration of National Girls and Women in Sports Day. Members of Rutgers’ 15 women’s intercollegiate athletic programs will be honored at halftime.
