NEW YORK (April 12, 2013) -- Senior guard Erica Wheeler (Miami, Fla.) was named Second Team All-Met by the Met Basketball Writers Association on Friday.
Wheeler, an Honorable Mention All-BIG EAST selection, led the Rutgers women’s basketball team at 10.5 points per game. She led the Scarlet Knights in three-point shooting at a .354 clip and finished the season attempting 178 shots from downtown to tie for second on the RU single season three-pointers attempted list
Wheeler led RU in scoring 11 times in 2012-13, including 16 double figure performances. She notched a season-high 24 points against USF on Feb. 26 to help give head coach C. Vivian Stringer her 900th career victory. Additionally, the senior guard led the Scarlet Knights in steals 13 times, including a career-high eight thefts at DePaul (Feb. 12) and recorded three or more steals in 13 contests. Wheeler also led her squad in assists seven times, including three games with five or more assists, and dished out a career-high five assists three-times her senior season against DePaul (Feb. 13), Princeton (Nov. 29) and Providence (Jan. 16).
Wheeler finishes her career “On The Banks” ranked 32nd on Rutgers All-Time scoring leaders list with 1,027 career points. She also ranks fifth all-time at RU in three-point field goals made (157), third in three-point field goals attempted (500), and 10th on the Scarlet Knight all-time three-point field goal percentage list (.314). With 129 games in the Scarlet Knight uniform, Wheeler is also tied for eighth all-time in career appearances.
