NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. -- Children’s Specialized Hospital is proud to announce Rutgers women’s basketball coach C. Vivian Stringer as the honorary chairperson for the third year at the annual Walk n’ Roll, presented by Kohl’s department stores, May 18, 2013 at Johnson Park in Piscataway.
This event has welcomed thousands of supporters each year to enjoy a 1, 2.5 or 5 mile walk or roll around Johnson Park. Immediately following the walk supporters will enjoy the free Kohl's KidsAbilities Carnival where everyone can enjoy live music, games and prizes, food, and learn about special needs all for free. Children Specialized Hospital is the largest provider of pediatric rehabilitation services in the country. With 10 locations in New Jersey, the hospital serves more than 20,000 children each year, including those children affected by brain injury, spinal cord injury, premature birth, autism, developmental delays, and life-changing illnesses.
Coach Stringer has special connection to Children’s Specialized Hospital and the families it serves, being the mother of two children who have been affected by serious health complications – she can relate and truly has a passion for supporting children with special needs.
“I am really honored to help Children’s Specialized Hospital. Being a mother of a child with special needs and having gone through a very tough recovery with my son, I know what it’s like for families with the same situations,” said Stringer. “I am proud to be part of this event to help the hospital, which is known as one of the best pediatric rehabilitation hospitals in the country.”
“We’re all very excited for this year’s Walk n’ Roll,” said Kimberly Armenti, director of development, Children’s Specialized Hospital Foundation. “With support and leadership from Coach Stringer, Kim Hanemann as chair, our entire event committee and dedicated team captains, we know this year’s fundraising efforts will enable Children’s Specialized to help many more children with special needs. We encourage everyone to gather a team, start fundraising and come out for what really is a truly special event.”
Last year’s Walk n’ Roll drew in over 1,600 community members that were able to raise over $175,000. This year Children’s Specialized Hospital is expecting over 2,000 and hoping to raise $185,000 to support outpatient center expansion.
