PISCATAWAY, NJ – Junior Chelsea Newton (Monroe, LA) scored 14 of her game-high 21 points in the second half as Rutgers (13-7, 5-3 BIG EAST) surged ahead of Syracuse (6-13, 3-6 BIG EAST) for a 61-45 victory on Wednesday at the Louis Brown Athletic Center.

CORAL GABLES, FL – The Rutgers women’s basketball team (12-7, 4-3 BIG EAST) built a double-digit lead in the second half and was able to withstand several Hurricane rallies, defeating No. 17/16 Miami (16-3, 5-3 BIG EAST) 76-69 in Coral Gables, FL, Jan. 31.

January-29-04 Pondexter Named Midseason All-American
PISCATAWAY, NJ – Rutgers junior Cappie Pondexter (Chicago, IL) has been named to the Wooden Women’s Award Midseason All-America Team. The junior 5-9 guard is one of 20 players expected to make a run at the first-ever Wooden Women’s Award, which will be awarded to the nation’s top Division I basketball player at the conclusion of the 2003-2004 season.
