PISCATAWAY, N.J. (January 8, 2010) - Rutgers University sophomore center Gregory Echenique (Guatire, Venezuela) has informed the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics of his intent to transfer and he has been granted a conditional release.

“Gregory has been a valuable member of our program,” said head men’s basketball coach Fred Hill. “We are appreciative of his contributions at Rutgers and wish him the best in his future endeavors.”

Echenique started all seven games in which he competed this season. He averaged 12.6 points and 7.7 rebounds-per-game, while shooting 61 percent (28-46) from the field with 16 blocks.
