  • HARTFORD, CT (Ticker) -- Tony Robertson scored a career-high 24 points as 24th-ranked Connecticut pulled away for a 87-70 Big East Conference victory over Rutgers.

    A 6-2 senior guard, Robertson scored 15 of his points after halftime, helping the Huskies methodically take control of the contest. Robertson's previous high was 22 points against Providence, set last season.

    Robertson made all 13 of his free throws, where the Huskies went 25-of-26.

    Ben Gordon - Robertson's backcourt mate - added 20 points for the Huskies (16-6, 7-4 East), who completed a 9-0 campaign at Hartford while pulling within one-half game of first-place Villanova in the East division.

    Herve Lamizana netted 20 points to lead Rutgers (11-12, 3-8 West), which fell into a sixth-place tie with Georgetown in the West division. The Scarlet Knights must finish in the top six to qualify for the Big East tournament.

    With the loss, Rutgers falls to 11-12, 3-8 in the BIG EAST Conference.

    LAMIZANA NOTCHES 20 POINTS FOR FIFTH TIME
    With 20 points against Connecticut, junior forward Herve Lamizana recorded at least 20 points for the fifth time in his career, all this season. It was just two points shy of his career high of 22 points, which he recorded against Prairie View A&M (12/30/02) and Boston College (2/8/02).

    COLEMAN MOVES INTO TIE FOR 39TH ON RU ALL-TIME SCORING LIST, 16TH IN STEALS
    With eight points against Connecticut, senior Jerome Coleman moved into a tie for 39th place on the RU all-time scoring list, with 917 points (Anthony Duckett 1985-90). Next on the list is Alan Ammerman, with 928 points from 1959-1962. With two steals, Coleman now has 108 in his career, which moved him into 16th place all-time at RU.

    HILL RECORDS CAREER HIGHS IN POINTS, REBOUNDS AND MINUTES
    Freshman forward Adrian Hill tied his career high with eight points against Connecticut. It was also a season high point total for Hill in BIG EAST games. Hill previously scored eight points against Fordham on Dec. 11, 2002. Hill also grabbed a career high seven rebounds and played a career high 19 minutes versus Connecticut. His previous highs were four rebounds (Morris Brown, 12/23/02) and 15 minutes (Morris Brown, 12/23/02).

    SHERROD TIES SEASON HIGH WITH 10 POINTS
    With 10 points against Connecticut, junior point guard Mike Sherrod tied his season high for points in a game. He also tallied 10 points against West Virginia on January 26 in Morgantown.

    SHIELDS FROM THREE-POINT LAND
    By hitting 2-of-4 three-point shots against Connecticut, Ricky Shields has now converted 8 of his last 18 (.444) from behind the arc over the past four games. For the season, Shields has made 49-of-125 (.392) from three-point range.

    WOOTEN TIES CAREER HIGH WITH THREE STEALS
    With three steals against Connecticut, freshman guard Calvin Wooten tied his career high, which he also accomplished against Columbia (11/18/02) in the first game of his career.
