  • PHILADELPHIA, PA - - Abdulai Jalloh scored 18 of his 23 points in the first half to lead Saint Joseph's to a 71-62 win over Rutgers in the opening round of the National Invitation Tournament on Thursday night in front of a loud, sell-out crowd of 3,200 at Alumni Fieldhouse.

Scarlet Knight junior guard Quincy Douby scored 30 points to lead the Scarlet Knights (19-14) and set Rutgers' single-season scoring record with 839 points. After beginning the game 1-for-7 from the field, Douby hit 11 of his final 15 shots and wound up 12-for-22 from the field. Douby’s final season scoring average of 25.4 is the third-highest mark in school history. Douby ended the season with three consecutive 30-plus point games (31 vs. Villanova, 32 vs. Penn State), becoming the first Scarlet Knight since Eric Riggins in 1987 to hit for 30 in three straight games. Riggins ended his career that season with four straight 30-point games.

Forwards Rob Ferguson and Pat Calathes added 17 and 12 points, respectively, for the Hawks (19-13), who will host Hofstra in the second round on Monday. Hofstra defeated Nebraska 73-62 on Thursday.

Saint Joseph's advanced to the postseason for the sixth consecutive season — three NCAA Tournament berths and three trips to the NIT. The Hawks lost to South Carolina 60-57 in the championship game of the NIT last season.

The Hawks built a 17-point lead early in the second half and then held off the Scarlet Knights. Rutgers got within eight points in the final 1:30 before Saint Joseph's pulled away. Rutgers freshman forward JR Inman added 12 points and eight rebounds in 24 minutes of action. It was just the second game back for Inman since missing nine games with a fractured right fibula sustained on Feb. 5 in a game vs. seton Hall.

Jalloh scored Saint Joseph's last 11 points of the first half — three 3-pointers and two free throws. Jalloh's third straight 3-pointer gave the Hawks their largest lead of the opening half at 37-20 with 2:48 remaining.

Saint Joseph's shot 46 percent from the field and outrebounded Rutgers 20-12 in the first half

    POSTGAME NOTES

DOUBY SETS RU SINGLE-SEASON SCORING MARK
Quincy Douby’s 30-point outing vs. Saint Joseph’s gives him 839 points on the season, surpassing Bob Lloyd for the most points ever scored in a single season by a Scarlet Knight. Lloyd held the single season scoring mark of 809 for 39 years (set in the 1966-67 season), which Douby tied on Tuesday night with his 32-point effort vs. Penn State.  Douby established the single season scoring mark with 16:44 left in the first half when he hit a three-point shot from the right corner.

DOUBY AVERAGES 25.4 PPG IN 2005-06
Quincy Douby concluded the 2005-06 season with a 25.4 points per game average, the third-best single season average in Rutgers history. Bob Lloyd averaged 27.9 points in 1966-67, and 26.5 points in 1965-66.

    “5” WITH 30
Quincy Douby poured in a game and team-high 30 points vs. Saint Joseph’s, the ninth time this season he equaled or surpassed the 30-point mark. Douby has scored 30 or more points 10 times in his career.

Also, Douby has scored 30 or more points in his last three games, and four of his last five games. He became the first Rutgers player since Eric Riggins to score 30 or more in three consecutive games (Riggins concluded the 1986-87 season with four straight games of 30 or more points).

    DOUBY’S DOUBLES
Junior guard Quincy Douby scored 30 points vs. Saint Joseph’s, the 39th consecutive game that he has scored in double figures for the Scarlet Knights, dating back to the 2004-05 season.

DOUBY IN SECOND PLACE ON RU CAREER THREE-POINTERS LIST
With three three-point field goals vs. Saint Joseph’s, Quincy Douby now has 251 career three-pointers and needs 15 to move into first place on the Rutgers all-time list. Former teammate Ricky Shields is the current career leader with 265 three-point field goals made, set from 2001-05. Douby moved past Geoff Billet (1995-99) and into second place with eight three-pointers vs. Penn State in the opening round NIT game on Tuesday. Douby attempted eight three-pointers against the Hawks, giving him 646 attempts for his career, second behind the all-time career leaders Shields, who attempted 742 as a Scarlet Knight.

INMAN SEES MOST ACTION SINCE FEB. 5
Freshman forward JR Inman, who saw his first action since Feb. 5 on Tuesday night in the opening round of the NIT at Penn State, was the first player off the bench for Rutgers tonight against Saint Joseph’s, checking in with 15:39 left in the first half. Inman played 24 minutes vs. Saint Joseph’s (the most since playing 17 minutes vs. Seton Hall on Feb. 5 before being sidelined with injury early in the second half of that game), scoring 12 points and grabbing eight rebounds. Inman, who was selected to the BIG EAST All-Rookie team despite missing the final seven games of the regular season and both games in the BIG EAST Tournament, played six minutes and scored three points and grabbed five rebounds against the Nittany Lions.

    SEASON LOW TURNOVER TOTAL
The Scarlet Knights committed just six turnovers against Saint Joseph’s, their season low in 2005-06. The previous low was seven turnovers on two occasions, vs. St. John’s on Feb. 15 and South Florida on Feb. 18.

    20-POINT HALF FOR DOUBY
Quincy Douby scored 20 points in the second half vs. the Hawks, marking the fifth time this season that he has scored 20 or more points in a half.
