  • PISCATAWAY, N.J. (AP) -- Jerome Coleman scored 16 points and Rutgers held Morris Brown to one field goal in the game's first 14 minutes in a 68-48 victory Monday night.

Herve Lamizana scored 15 and Ricky Shields added 14 points for Rutgers (6-3), which forced 24 turnovers and held Morris Brown to 30 percent shooting from the field.

Morris Brown's Anthony Adams led all scorers with 17 points.

Morris Brown, ranked No. 326 out of 327 teams in the latest Ratings Percentage Index (RPI), recovered from its cold start to give Rutgers a scare in the final minutes of the first half. But the Scarlet Knights started the second half with an 18-4 run that put the visitors away.

Lamizana started the spurt with a jumper and drive, and Coleman added a jumper and a layup off a steal, one of 13 in the game for Rutgers, for a 39-21 lead.

After Larry Washington scored for Morris Brown, Rutgers ran off seven more points to lead 46-23.

The lead reached 24 points (54-30) with 8:35 left after a reverse dunk by Adrian Hill off an alley-oop pass by Calvin Wooten, and 27 (62-35) on a 3-pointer by Coleman with 8:44 left.

Morris Brown, one of seven Division I basketball schools without a conference affiliation, lost for the 10th time in 11 games. The combined record of the six teams Rutgers has defeated this season is 12-37.

Morris Brown managed only six shots during the game's first 8:10, a span in which the Wolverines committed nine turnovers and fell behind 22-6.

Anthony Adams scored in the lane with 17:10 left, and the Wolverines' next field goal did not come until 5:52 remained, when Reshard Alonza made a 3-pointer. In between, Morris Brown made six of 11 foul shots.

Morris Brown cut the lead to 24-16 with 4:25 left in the half with an 8-0 run during which it held Rutgers scoreless for 4:14.

But the Scarlet Knights, who forced Morris Brown into 15 turnovers in the first half while committing only four, pushed the lead back to 10 points by halftime, helped by six points by Lamizana in the final 3:58.
