  • PISCATAWAY, NJ – Rutgers freshman forward Ollie Bailey (Chicago, IL) was named the BIG EAST Rookie of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.

In RU’s lone game this past week, Bailey scored a career-high 21 points on 8-of-10 (.800) shooting from the floor in a 63-58 victory over Norfolk State on Saturday. The 6-7, 225-pound forward also pulled down five rebounds against the Spartans. He is averaging 13.9 points and is tied with Marquis Webb (Paterson, NJ) with a team-best 5.9 rebounds. He currently leads the BIG EAST with a .645 (40-of-62) field goal percentage. He also ranks in the top-20 in the league in scoring (19th) and rebounding (T-17th).

Bailey has scored in double-figures in six of Rutgers’ seven games and has reached the 20-point mark twice this season.

It marks the second time this season Bailey has earned the honor. He was named the league’s Rookie of the Week on Nov. 29 after averaging 13.5 points and 7.5 rebounds in victories over Charlotte and St. Mary’s to open his collegiate career.

Rutgers (4-3) hosts intrastate foe Fairleigh Dickinson on Wednesday, Dec. 22 at 7:30 p.m. at the Louis Brown Athletic Center.
