  • PRINCETON, NJ - Judson Wallace scored a game-high 18 points and grabbed 11 rebounds and freshman Noah Savage scored a career-high 16 points as Princeton overcame cold-shooting Rutgers 53-40 Wednesday night in front of 5,135 fans at Jadwin Gymnasium.

Princeton (4-2) gave first-year head coach Joe Scott a victory in his home debut while sending Rutgers (2-3) to its third straight defeat. The Tigers snapped a five-game losing streak in the series against Rutgers.

Rutgers led 23-20 at the half and after scoring 10 straight points, took a 33-27 lead with 13:39 remaining. From that point on, the Scarlet Knights made just one basket as the Tigers outscored them, 26-7. Rutgers’ zone defense was largely effective, limiting Princeton to 38.3% from the field and 31.4% from three-point range (11-of-35). Rutgers, however, was just 3-of-13 on its three-point shot attempts.

It was Rutgers' lowest point total since a 56-38 loss to Temple on Dec. 19, 1998. Rutgers shot 33.3 percent overall and 20 percent in the second half.

Princeton went ahead to stay when Wallace hit a 3-pointer to make it 34-33 with 9:47 remaining. With the score 41-38, Princeton used an 8-1 run to open a 10-point lead that sealed it with 1:35 left.

Princeton had a 33-30 rebounding advantage. Senior guard Ricky Shields, sophomore guard Quincy Douby and freshman power forward Ollie Bailey each had 11 points for Rutgers. Bailey was 4-of-5 from the field and 3-of-4 from the free throw line.

    POST-GAME NOTES

    BAILEY DOUBLE-DIGITS AGAIN
Freshman forward Ollie Bailey tied for team-high honors in scoring with 11 points on 4-of-5 shooting from the field and 3-of-4 shooting from the free throw line. Bailey has scored in double figures in four of Rutgers’ five games and is averaging 13.0 points and 5.2 rebounds per game.

    QUEZADA FOR THREE
Freshman guard Manny Quezada sank the first three-point jump shot of his short career in the first half vs. Princeton. For Quezada, it was the first three-point try of his career. He also contributed two rebounds and one steal in six minutes of action.

    INGLIS TWO-FOR-TWO FROM THE FIELD
Junior center Jimmie Inglis was a perfect two-for-two from the field and grabbed two rebounds in 17 minutes of action off the bench. Inglis has now made 7-of-11 shots (.637) on the season, a percentage which is tops on the team.

SHIELDS MOVES INTO 14TH PLACE ON RU SCORING LIST
With 11 points vs. Princeton, senior guard Ricky Shields has moved into 14th place on the Rutgers all-time scoring list. He passed Rob Hodgson (1,275 points from 1995-99) and now has 1,280 career points. John Battle (1,385 points from 1981-85) is in 13th place.
