PISCATAWAY, NJ – Rutgers University freshman forward Ollie Bailey (Chicago, IL) was named the BIG EAST Rookie of the Week and sophomore guard Quincy Douby (Brooklyn, NY) was named the BIG EAST Co-Player of the Week (along with West Virginia’s Tyrone Sally) the league office announced today.
Rutgers opened the 2004-05 season with a pair of impressive victories, defeating Charlotte on the road, 73-71, on Nov. 22 and followed up that effort with a 66-58 win over Saint Mary’s on Nov. 27.
Bailey averaged 13.5 points and 7.5 rebounds in the two games. He scored 12 points on 6-of-9 shooting and grabbed seven rebounds in the win over Charlotte. He followed up that performance with a 15-point, eight-rebound effort vs. Saint Mary’s.
Douby averaged 20.5 points in the two Scarlet Knight victories. He had 20 points and matched his career high with six assists in the triumph over Charlotte. Against Saint Mary’s, Douby posted 21 points and was 3-for-4 from three-point range.
Rutgers hosts a pair of Big 10 teams this week. On Wed., Dec. 1, the Scarlet Knights host Penn State and on Sat., Dec. 4, the Scarlet Knights entertain Wisconsin. Both games are 7:30 p.m. tip-offs.
