Webb averaged 16.9 points, 7.3 rebounds, 5.9 assists and 3.2 steals per game while earning All-State (second-team) and All-Passaic County (first-team) honors in 2001-02. He helped lead Paterson Catholic to a 23-3 record, a berth in the NJSIAA North Jersey, Parochial A final and to the Passaic County Tournament championship. Webb, who made 71 three-point shots last season, has 1,240 career points entering his senior season.
A consensus national Top 100 recruit, Webb is ranked as one of the Top 20 guards in the nation by RivalsHoops.com. Webb is the first New Jersey player signed by Waters, who is entering his second season as Rutgers’ head basketball coach.
“We are thrilled that Marquis has elected to continue his education and play basketball at Rutgers University,” said Waters. “Marquis is first and foremost a winner. In addition, Marquis is a leader. When you watch him play you notice two things – his team wins and he is involved in all of the big plays. Those are traits that we look for in our program.
“Marquis plays very hard and he plays with a great deal of passion,”
added Waters. “I am excited that he will be a part of our family here
at Rutgers University.”
