PISCATAWAY, NJ - Quincy Douby (Brooklyn, NY) a 6-3, 175-pound guard, was named the BIG EAST Co- Rookie of the Week, the league office announced today. Douby shares this week’s honor with Chris Taft of Pittsburgh.
The deep-shooting Douby was a perfect 5-for-5 on three-pointers and scored 19 points to pace Rutgers to a 78-70 victory over St. John’s on Saturday. Douby hit three critical three-point jump shots in a span of 2:46 (from 7:31 to 4:45) of the second half. Douby scored 14 of the Scarlet Knights’ 16 points at one point during the second half, including nine straight points.
The five three-pointers made by Douby is a career-high. His previous career high of four came on two separate occasions (vs. Temple 12/3 and at Penn State 12/10).
This is the second time this season that Douby has earned Co-BIG EAST Rookie-of-the-Week honors. He was honored on Dec. 5 following a career-high 21-point outing in a victory over Temple.
The freshman is averaging 10.6 ppg., is hitting three-pointers at a .441 clip (30-of-68) and is shooting free throws at an .853 clip (29-of-34).
