PISCATAWAY, N.J. (January 25, 2013) – Rutgers University head men’s basketball coach Mike Rice will ring the NASDAQ MarketSite closing bell on Monday (Jan. 28) at 4 p.m. in conjunction with the Coaches vs. Cancer Sneakers Challenge. The ceremony will take place at 4 Times Square in New York, N.Y.
A member of the NABC Coaches vs. Cancer National Council, Rice will be joined by fellow metro coaches Mo Cassara (Hofstra), Mitch Henderson (Princeton), Gene Keady (St. John’s), as well as MSG Network personality Tina Cervasio. The 10th annual Suits and Sneakers Weekend will take place Jan. 25-27 around the country with more than 4,000 college and high school basketball coaches participating.
Rice is an active member of Coaches vs. Cancer and its many endeavors. His commitment to the organization was never more prevalent than on Sept. 28, when he rappelled a 470 skyscraper in Jersey City in the “Over the Edge” event. A week prior, he participated in the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network Leadership Summit and Lobby Day in Washington, D.C. Prior to each season, he and wife Kerry host a Tip-Off Dinner at the Rutgers Athletic Center surrounding a team practice to increase awareness and raise funds. The first two dinners combined to raise approximately $100,000 in the fight against cancer.
