Bruce Beck Collects Sixth Straight New York State Sportscaster of the Year Honor
Veteran WNBC-4 Sports Anchor and Reporter is the Host of R Football and Inside Rutgers Basketball

  • PISCATAWAY, N.J. (January 11, 2013) – Bruce Beck, the host of R Football and Inside Rutgers Basketball, has been named the 2012 New York State Sportscaster of the Year by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association. Beck will receive the honor at the 54th annual NSSA Awards Banquet June 8-10 in Salisbury, N.C., home of the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Hall of Fame.

    For Beck, it marked the sixth consecutive year he was named the New York State Sportscaster of the Year by the NSSA. Beck shared the award with SNY’s Gary Cohen.

    Beck is the lead sports anchor for WNBC-4 and also files numerous sports reports for the station's various weekday newscasts. The versatile sportscaster has covered a multitude of events for News 4 New York, including Super Bowl XLII and XLIII, the World Series, the NBA Finals, the Stanley Cup Finals, the U.S. Open Tennis Championship, the U.S. Open Golf Championship, the NCAA Final Four, the Kentucky Derby and the 2002, 2004, 2006, 2008 and 2012 Olympic Games. Beck is also the host of WNBC's popular Sunday night show Mike'd Up.

    Beck was the recipient of a 1999 New York Emmy Award for outstanding On-Camera Achievement in Sports Reporting for WNBC-TV. Overall, he has received eight New York Sports Emmys, one Mid-Atlantic Sports Emmy, and three national Cable Ace Awards.

    A graduate of Ithaca College in Ithaca, N.Y., Beck received a Bachelor of Science degree in 1978. He and his wife Janet reside in Scarsdale, N.Y. and are the proud parents of two sons – Jonathan and Michael.
