PISCATAWAY, N.J. (April 26, 2012) - Rutgers University head men’s basketball coach Mike Rice announced Thursday that Vincent Garrett (Chicago, Ill.) has signed a National Letter of Intent to compete for the Scarlet Knights. A scoring wing that averaged 16 points and six rebounds per game this past season as a sophomore at Lee College in Baytown, Texas, Garrett will compete as a junior for the Scarlet Knights in 2012-13.
“Signing Vincent was a priority for us this recruiting period, and we are thrilled to welcome him into the program,” said Rice. “He is a very gifted athlete with the ability to score the ball at many levels. Vincent is also a mature young man who has developed and excelled due to a tremendous work ethic.”

Averaged 16.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists to earn All-Region XIV South Zone First Team honors in 2011-12 under head coach Roy Champagne at Lee College in Baytown, Texas…Scoring wing who also played point guard in spurts for the Rebels, who posted a 19-12 record in 2011-12…Also considered reported scholarship offers from Oregon State, Texas A&M and UNLV…Lee has graduated transfers in recent years to Indiana, Illinois, Oregon, Hawaii and LSU…A 2010 graduate of Marshall Metropolitan High School in Chicago, Ill., where he played power forward and center under head coach Henry Cotton…Averaged 16.0 points and 11.0 rebounds as a senior to earn All-Public honors as the Commandos captured the regional title and posted a 28-7 overall record…Helped Marshall to the 2010 city championship game, where it suffered a hard-fought 61-60 loss to Morgan City which featured current Louisville player Wayne Blackshear…Scored 12 points and had nine rebounds in the 2010 Chicago High School All Star Classic…Marshall is the alma mater of former RU women’s hardwood All-American Cappie Pondexter, as well as Arthur Agee, who was featured in the acclaimed 1994 documentary “Hoop Dreams”…Competed on the AAU circuit for the Mac Irvin Fire, which also featured Blackshear, Tim Hardaway Jr. (Michigan) and Meyers Leonard and Mike Shaw (llinois)…Notable Mac Irvin alumni include Antoine Walker and Juwan Howard.
