PISCATAWAY, N.J. (May 18, 2011) – Forward Wally Judge (Washington, D.C.), a 2009 McDonald’s High School All-America selection who played the past two seasons at Kansas State, has signed the required paperwork to transfer to Rutgers University. Judge will be able to participate in team functions with the Scarlet Knights in 2011-12, but will be unable to compete in games under NCAA transfer guidelines.
“We are very excited to welcome Wally into our program,” said Rutgers head coach Mike Rice. “He is a big time athlete who can put the ball on the floor and also shoot it from 15 to 17 feet. Defensively, he has the ability to guard three positions. We are confident Wally will realize his tremendous potential here at RU.”
Judge (6-9, 240), who will have two seasons of eligibility remaining after his year in residence, will have the opportunity to compete in games in 2012-13.
Judge played in 53 games (17 starts) in two seasons at Kansas State. As a sophomore in 2010-11, he played in 17 contests (11 starts) and averaged 15.2 minutes, 5.5 points and 3.8 rebounds per game. As a true freshman in 2009-10, he saw action in 36 contests (six starts) and averaged 11.7 minutes, 3.3 points and 3.0 rebounds per game. The Wildcats advanced to the 2010 NCAA Elite Eight and concluded their season ranked No. 7 in both polls with a 29-8 overall record as Judge earned the team’s Ernie Barrett Hustle Award. He saw action in all four NCAA Tournament games, averaging 5.5 points on a team-best 66.7 percent shooting from the field with 5.5 rebounds in 17.8 minutes per game.
A 2009 graduate of Arlington Country Day in Jacksonville, Fla., Judge was regarded as one of the top power forwards in the country, including the No. 15 overall prospect on the ESPNU100 by ESPN Scouts, Inc. and No. 18 in the Rivals150 by Rivals.com. A five star prospect, he was selected as an ESPN/Rise First Team All-American, a Jordan Brand All-American and a Parade Magazine Second Team All-American.
Judge played on the AAU circuit for D.C. Assault. He will join fellow D.C. Assault products and incoming signees Jerome Seagears (Washington, D.C.) and Malick Kone (Guinea, West Africa) on the roster. RU’s incoming class is the highest rated in school history and was most recently ranked No. 10 nationally by Scout, No. 15 by ESPNU and No. 5 by Hoop Scoop.
