New Jersey native and Rutgers graduate Brad Wachtel is in his second season with the Scarlet Knights as assistant to the head coach. His primary responsibility is to provide executive level support to Mike Rice while orchestrating the overall management of administrative duties and daily functions of the Men’s Basketball Office.
“Brad simply bleeds scarlet,” said Rice. “He ensures that we run a daily operation that’s consistent with success.”
Among Wachtel’s many duties are the development the Scarlet Knights’ summer basketball camps, which saw a spike in attendance this past summer. He also manages the coach’s daily calendar and acts as a liaison with members of the athletic staff, administration, student-athletes, parents, alumni, media, general public, college and high school coaches.
A native of East Brunswick, Wachtel returned to “the Banks” after working as Director of Operations at the Hoop Group in Neptune, N.J. since 2005. He managed the day-to-day operations in the main office, handled all administrative issues, and provided direct assistance to the company president. Wachtel also helped to organize the Hoop Group Elite Basketball Camps and assisted in the management and administration of high school and AAU basketball tournaments.
Wachtel served as head student manager for the Scarlet Knights from 2001-05. RU made a pair of post-season appearances during his tenure, including a berth in the 2004 NIT final.
Wachtel earned a bachelor of science degree in exercise science and sports studies from Rutgers in 2005. His father Artie was an assistant basketball coach at Long Island University for 18 years
