Gene Wells heads up the task of equipping and outfitting the Scarlet Knights men’s basketball team. A 1980 Rutgers College graduate with a degree in History, Wells was a standout on the Scarlet Knight track and field team, where he was team MVP his senior year and former school record-holder in the 800-meters.
As Manager of Equipment Services, Wells oversees a staff of three other full time equipment managers. In this role, he manages the services and day-to-day operations of athletics equipment and is responsible for equipment purchases and inventory. He also consults with Head Coaches on specific equipment needs while evaluating health and safety issues.
A member of the Rutgers athletic department since 1983, Wells is also the equipment manager for men’s and women’s track and assists with other programs. A Piscataway High School graduate, Wells and his wife Janet reside in Piscataway with their son Brian and daughter Meaghan. Brian is currently a junior engineering major at Rutgers and is following in his father’s footsteps, competing for both the track & field and cross country teams.
